If you’ve been following the runway shows for fall 2022 during the month of fashion you might have seen an upcoming star walking the runways. This is IMG Model Alex Consani, who walked for brands like Alexander McQueen as well as Versace. With her signature bleach blonde eyebrows and hair The 18-year-old model is fast becoming one of the hottest new faces. Alex Consani first became noticed on TikTok which is where she currently has more than 719,000 fans on her account.
Consani started her TikTok during the time of quarantine in 2020. Since then, she quickly gained a following for her unfiltered, candid, and spontaneous videos. All of these are hallmarks of Gen-Z humor in the application. She’ll document herself struggling to gain entry into her Tripp NYC showroom and even impersonating the euphoria of‘s Jules in the club. “Gen-Z humor is extremely different from the rest of humor I have seen,” Alex Consani says about the TikTok style. “It is focused on the randomness of things, is not a result of sketches planned. Particularly on TikTok I’ve noticed viewers inclined to prefer content that comes from nothing, without any reason.”
What inspired you to begin creating content on TikTok?
I started using TikTok to escape boredom after quarantine began. Since I was a kid I’ve always had an account on social media where I would share funny memes and other things for my pals to laugh at. After I began I noticed that my friends and family informed me of how hilarious they were. Since I also enjoyed it I decided to continue my journey through the platform.
What is your method for creating TikToks? Where do you find the ideas?
TikTok to me, is an experience that happens often. The majority of the time it’s when I’m out with my friends or in my room and bored. I think social media is most authentic and effective when done this way because it allows the person who creates content to be seen as a real person rather than an online celebrity. The ideas just pop into my mind, from conversations I am having or events that are taking place. This allows me to express my opinions on topics I strongly believe in and also to show my sense of humor.
We’d like to know a detail about how you got started modeling.
I began modeling in the early part of 2015 following an Facebook advertisement that my mom came across. I’ve always been interested in modeling. As a transgender girl, I felt that there was a absence of representation and I wanted to fill that gap and remind the nonbinary and trans people that it’s wonderful to be trans and not something to be embarrassed about. Then I saw the potential of the job and I signed with my mother’s agent in the year 2018. Then I signed with IMG just at the beginning of the year.
What would you say about you personally?
I’m still trying to figure out my personal style, but I feel that my style is most similar to that of Diesel, if it were going to Woodstock. A lot in leather and moto jackets and miniskirtst. I love the vintage pieces from the 2000s and 1990s with lace or beaded. They tend to be that revolve around grunge. I find lots of inspiration from old runway shows of the 1980s and 1990s.
Where do you prefer shopping in NYC? What are your top spots to shop in NYC?
Recently, I’ve been into vintage items that have value due to their high-end quality. One of my top places to buy from that market is James Veloria in Chinatown. They offer a variety of stunning investment pieces that never cease to impress me. Most often, they have jackets and dresses which perfectly fit into my wardrobe. Another is Cafe Forgot on the Lower East Side. There is a rack of clothing that can be turned by a controller that is mounted that hangs on the wall that allows all of their items to be seen. Nothing can be as satisfying as a shopping trip at a thrift store but that’s exactly where most of my items in my closet can be found.
How do you envision your next goals regarding modeling?
I would like to be able to continue representing my community of trans people and showcase the beauty of being trans and how accepting differences can bring self-love. I am awestruck when I walk in the fashion world and I would like to be a part of more shows in Europe. The story of the fashion houses in Europe is amazing. One that I’ve always dreamed about since the age of a child when I watched Breakfast inTiffany’s featuring Audrey Hepburn, is Givenchy. I’ve always longed to be able to wear their clothing and experience the feeling of elegance that their silhouettes have.
What’s your top TikTok you’ve created? What was the most time-consuming?
I used to write random stuff I would take notes of everything I found amusing in my dayand then creating a article. As I’ve developed my relationship with my followers and my audience, I’m making content that is geared towards taking myself beyond these little moments of laughter–and discuss issues and thoughts that are important to me. I’ve always created videos when I was thinking of the idea, which is why it typically takes less than 30 seconds to produce. I make sure to keep the thoughts simple to ensure that it’s always present and natural.
